Questions

Shop / Ordering

The shop looks closed. How can I place an order?

It is just me in my basement working on hobby level equipment and every piece is made to order. I also don't like taking people's money for longer than 3 weeks without shipping their order. So I open my shop until I get between 75-100 new orders and close it up (remove the "Add To Cart" button). This is about 3 weeks of work for me. It used to take a day or two before filling up but these days it's usually closer to hours. Sorry about that.
I communicate through social media posts, primarily Instagram. There is also an email list signup at the bottom of every shop page and I send an email before the reopen.

Can you ship to (add your country here)?

Sorry. USA/PR only. I do not deal with customs.

What is a Punch Marker?

It's a fun, super customizable utility tool.

Some makers go for exact mimicry—replicating the tip to look like a real marker, using non-metallic materials to bypass metal detectors. That’s awesome. I love those guys. We need those guys. But that’s just not me. I’m putting the biggest spike that’ll fit under the cap, and I’ll do it in whatever color you like. Because I think it's cool.

For me, these live somewhere between utility and art.

I use mine in a lot of the same situations I’d use a pocket knife—when I don’t want to risk messing up a $300 Benchmade blade. Literally tonight, my wife made a roast chicken for Sunday dinner, and the cranberry sauce was stuck in the can (nothing but the best around here). So I popped a couple holes in the bottom with my Bolt, and it slid right out. 😎 Many Punch Markers are simple—because simple is what the best tools often are. As far as "scribes" go, "The Etch" line of Punch Markers are the only units made with tungsten that can etch glass/porcelain/ect. Everything else is made with Stainless Steel, Brass, or Titanium cores and none of those materials will ever touch glass. That’s the utility side.

And some of them? I spend a lot of fricken time on. I’ll sometimes grind off an entropic finish, have to re-polish and try again three or four times until it hits just right. That’s the art side.

Then, there is the existential aspect about how a “permanent marker” is not really permanent if it can dry out and no longer have purpose. So I make them live forever with a truly permanent existence? I dunno, still working that one out.

So what is a Punch Marker for?
Honestly, I have no idea.
Mostly because I’d never try to tell someone what to do with something they own. And frankly, it’s none of my business.
❤️✌

Are they just tips?

No. All solid core Punch Marker models have a core that goes about 75% of the way into the body and backfilled with epoxy (4in-5in depending on model). The Bolt™ uses removable arrowheads but the 200 grain threaded anchor runs deep into the marker body.
They are solid.

Why did the color on my titanium change?

The anodization layer on titanium is tough but can scratch and wear. Liquids and oils, even from our hands, can change how anodized titanium looks. A quick wipe with isopropyl alcohol is safe for the whole Punch Marker and should brighten the finish back up.

How durable is blackened brass?

This is by far the least durable finish.
It is just a chemical "bluing" process so a bot more care should be taken. It's still beautiful brass under there when it scratches or wears. :)

Will it etch/scribe glass or porcelain?

ONLY the Etch™ line of Punch Markers are designed to scribe glass, porcelain, etc.
Those use Devastator Brand carbide scribes and will do that job. All other Punch Markers use materials like stainless steel and titanium, and those will NOT.

Will mine look exactly like the photos?

Close, but not identical. Every spike is sharpened by hand, so expect small differences in finish, profile, and color. All photos I share are actual customer orders and taken on an iPhone.
